Integration

The lesson that I developed can be changed to be used at anytime of year to correspond with the appropriate holiday. I chose Christmas due to it is coming up so fast. This section used a lot of the previous lessons that we have learned throughout this semester. This lesson can be very helpful in setting up different lessons for class. It is surprising how much we have learned this semester. Here is the link.

Grades 2

This spreadsheet was difficult in areas but the help function was great. The help function was easy to read and understand and was great with the formulas. I was semi familiar with excel but after this assignment I have learned so many new ways to work on a spreadsheet. This will be helpful for my current job. This makes it so much easier than working each problem out by developing and executing a formula to do it for you quicker. Here is my spreadsheet.

Grades 1

This assignment can be very useful when trying to use formulas and creating spreadsheets. I had actually used these spreadsheets before and made it somewhat easier with working with the formulas. I did have some problems with placing a chart in but after some trial and error was able to get it in there. This project could be of a great asset to teachers in being able to get grades out to students on a more regular basis. Here is my grade sheet.

Ranking Tool

I started this project with a better understanding of what I was suppose to be doing. The tutorials in the Intel site was very helpful and informative to me. I did not have a partner for this project. I went through and found the CSO's and ISTE information that I needed to gather for my lesson. I then began to develop my page to provide the lesson plan that was developed for this. After all information was gathered and additional websites researched to gather information for additional information/games for students. The I began plugging in my information into the Intel account that I had signed up for. I fortunately did not have many problems with Itnel. I then put the finishing touches on my project. This type of projects could be very beneficial for students in the classroom. This can allow them to utilize technology, work with thier peers and become more informed. This is a good tool to use in the classroom. Her is my assignment.

Photo Shop

I enjyoed working with the photo shop. It was really cool to take the pictures and manipulate the colors. I also really like black and white photos. With all the different features available there is so many different options for the pictures. I used just a few different pictures and changed them. I am going to continue to use this feature for my other photos to share with family and friends. Here is my album.

Web Album

I really feel that the web albums are a good way to present your pictures for personal or educational use. It is a good format to show examples of what you are trying to teach to the students and gives an excellent visual aide. Here is my web album.

Graphic from scratch

I went into power point and created a web to present my sites. I picked my top four sites that have been the most useful to me so far this semester. I provided the name and address for each of these sites. I saved this as a .jpg. It is 29.0 KB. This type of graphic can be used in connecting information to make it more understandable to students. This could also be a good way of teaching students how to link their ideas together. Any organization skills can useful to students and this tool can be used as one in class.

Chart 2

For this assignment I went through and found the four closest income per capita states to West Virginia. They are in order of lowest to highest Mississippi, West Virginia, Arkansas, Utah and Kentucky. These are the five lowest incomes in the United States and their combined average is 28568. I then went through and found the number of students with IEP's for each of the five states. The number of students is shown in the pie graph provided. The states are from lowest number of students to highest are West Virginia, Utah, Arkansas, Mississippi and Kentucky. In comparing the number of student to the per capita income I was surprised to see that West Virginia did have the lowest number of students. The per capita income was also very low and would lead one to expect a higher number of students to have an IEP. This was overall an interesting assignment in seeing the comparisons with the other lower income states.

Chart 1

To begin this assignment I searched the NAEP sites to obtain the data necessary to complete the graph. After gathering the information I went to the Kid's Zone site to make a graph. This site is very user friendly. Then I saved my graph in .jpg. The graph dimensions are 400x300 and it's size is 21.1KB.

In reviewing the data it is apparent that West Virginia did not reach the national average. The West Virginia scores were anywhere from one to six points below the national average. This could have been a lot worse. It seems that there is a fluctuation in the years as to how much of a difference there is. In 2000 there was only a point difference as compared to 2005 when there was a six point difference. In conclusion West Virginia is not doing too bad but could use some improvement in this area. As long as the scores do not drop any further in time West Virginia should be able to catch up with or exceed the national average.

Grab A Screen

I picked out a picture I thought was interesting. I found the two trees dancing and thought this is a really cool picture. So I added splashes of yellow with the fill in the color tool. I added a hat with the spray paint option and eyes with elipse and paint brush for the mouth. I used a text box and pasted into the picture. The size of the picture is 89KB and the dimensions are 400x534.

Self Portrait

This was a fun little project to complete. I used the paint program on my computer. Then saved it to FTP. This was a 24-bitmap project (.bmp). I used the spray paint for my hair and used the yellow. I used the brush for the mouth, the line for my nose and the elipse filled in for my eyes. Here is my self-portrait.

This would be a fun project for students to do at the beginning of the year. Have all the students draw a portrait of themselves. Then along with their portrait they could present some fun facts about themselves to the class. It would be a nice way to allow students to get used to speaking in front of the class and familiar with each other.

Reading/Questions

The article was very difficult to read and understand what it was trying to say. I actually read it like three times to answer the questions provided. So I finally completed it and here's what answers I came up with for Reading.

Reflection

This assignment really got me to thinking about how much I have learned thus far this semester. WOW!! It has been a lot due to when I started this class I had never done anything with a blog or even heard of an FTP or Embedding. This has been at times very frustrating class but when I can actually work through and see how I can make things work it is very rewarding. So here is my Reflection assignment.

Jeopardy

I downloaded a Jeopardy game board to use. This is set up for fourth graders. These types of games in the classroom are fun and help to get the students more interested in school. I hope this works when it is uploaded. It did when I tried it out so here goes nothing.

Photo Story Lesson

This lesson moved along a lot faster than the previous. I had already download the Photo Story template to use which saved a lot of time. My computer is on dial-up internet and moves very slow at times. I went through and imported the slides I needed and added narration and music to the show. Then saved the presentation to my FTP site and to YouTube video.

Movie Maker

I initially had to download the Windows Movie Maker. I then converted the power point presentation to picture slides under jpeg. After this I transferred the slides to the movie maker. I added the additional slides needed along with the transitions between the slides for the movie. I then saved the movie to the YouTube. Then saved it to my google sites. I then transferred the movie to my FTP site.

Embedded

Here is the next part of the assignment. This part was not as difficult as the presentation. I hope this going to work. I am using my presentation that has been taking down to the bare essentials.

Here is the address it gave me to Embed my presentation. 5

Google Docs Presentation

Initially I had to cut the music out of my presentation due to it was to large to upload onto my Google Docs. Then I took all the pictures out of my presentation. Any extras that was in my presentation was removed but the basic information. This was the easy part after that I had a lot of problems with Google being up and working. I also have a very slow internet connection which is a problem within itself. I have had to try several times to get the presentation to upload in order to be able to share my presentation. I have spent several hours trying to get this to work.

After much screaming at my computer it finally worked so here it is

Power Point Presentation

I have only worked with Power Point one other time. This was when I was working on getting my Bachelor's degree. The tutorial on my computer was very helpful in putting this presentation together. I have seen others presentation with Power Point at conferences and other such meetings. Some of these presentations have been quite good.

So here is my Power Point Presentation.

Photo Story

I was quite intimidated when I saw that we had a photo story to do. I had never done this before and had no idea what I was in for. The Photo Story software was so easy to use and made the project fun. This is a very good way to display information to students where they can actually enjoy it and feel more like they are watching TV. Here is my Photo Story .

FTP

FTP

This is my very first experience with FTP. I had never heard of this function before this assignment. It was somewhat difficult to navigate at first. Some of the questions that I had were also questions my peers had for this assignment. I am very fortunate that other students in this class are very literate in computers.

I had some difficulty getting into the FTP through the library at first but continued to try and try again. I have learned very quickly in this class to write everything down in order to know what I have done. Once I actually got into my FTP account things went much smoother. I was able to drag a file over without any trouble.

I can really see and understand how this can be a very valuable tool to use regularly. It allows you to work on projects from place to place without keeping up with discs and other things that can be lost. This will be something I would like to learn more about and be able to utilize in my current job.

Personality Test

ESTJ - "Administrator". Much in touch with the external environment. Very responsible. Pillar of strength. 8.7% of total population.

My overall results from my personality test were not surprising to me. I have always been very organized when it comes to my work. I feel that work is something that should be done right and at 100%. I have also always been very social and have a diverse group of individuals that I socialize. I like to spend time alone but it is not a necessary and very rarely happens. I think the test is a good test for high school students to take. This can help them to become more aware of what type of person they are instead of what type of person they think they are.

Week Two

The calendar was overall easy to set up. I'm very glad for this. This is going to be a very challenging course for me. I am learning a lot of patience when it comes to working with my computer and internet. It doesn't seem to move as fast or exactly in the direction I think it should at times. The fact that I have been working to place my cover letter and resume onto my blog for the past two hours and lost my cover letter is not a good sign today. I did get my resume onto my blog. I feel as though at times my brain is on overload. I am trying to pace myself as this semester moves along. So after saying that I am going to take a break from this before I have to scream.

Saturday, August 30, 2008

This is my first blog on this site. I got enrolled into class late. I am playing catch-up this weekend. I am very excited about this class. I think it's going to be a big challenge but I am hopeful I will learn a lot. I use computers everyday in my job and hope that this is going to expand my knowledge.
I am sure I will have plenty of questions as the class goes on. I hope everyone has a great semester.
